KRAAK: OFFROAD met Nordra
Roadburn in de KRAAKKELDER! OFFROAD brengt Tilburg – en haar inwoners – dichter bij Roadburn, en vice versa. Op zaterdag 22 april in de KRAAKKELDER: Nordra, het solo project van Monika Khot, de frontvrouw van Zen Mother. Verwacht: noise, electronic beats, live instrumenten én de 'fate and terror of metal'.
𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐫𝐚
Nordra is het soloproject van de in Londen gevestigde artiest Monika Khot, de frontvrouw van de band Zen Mother en lid van verschillende projecten, waaronder Daughters, Zola Jesus, Marissa Nadler. Ze tornt aan de toekomst van pop met een ongelooflijk intense mix van noise, elektronische beats, haar etherische stem en verschillende live-instrumenten zoals een gitaar en een zaktrompet. Haar geluid bevat de 'terreur van metal', ook al ontbreken de traditionele instrumenten en een metal outfit. Als film- en danscomponist is de sound van Nordra filmisch en worden haar creaties sterk gedreven door mentale toestanden die worden geconfronteerd met angst, kwelling, hoop en wanhoop. Haar werk werd door Wire Magazine uitgeroepen tot een van de 20 beste albums van 2018.

Roadburn presenteert OFFROAD – een aanvullend programma dat tijdens het festival in Tilburg plaatsvindt op verschillende locaties door de stad. Tilburgers en bezoekers van overal zullen een voorproefje krijgen van wat Roadburn inhoudt, terwijl Roadburn-gangers de stad kunnen verkennen en eventueel iets extra’s kunnen toevoegen aan hun gebruikelijke Roadburn-ervaring. 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐫𝐚
Nordra is the solo project by London-based artist Monika Khot, who fronts the band Zen Mother and has served as a touring member of various projects including Daughters, Zola Jesus, Marissa Nadler, and more. She creates her design of the future of pop using an incredibly intense mix of noise, electronic beats, her ethereal voice and various live instruments such as a guitar and a pocket trumpet. Her sound emits the fate and terror of metal even if the traditional instrumentation of a metal outfit is missing. As a film and dance composer, Nordra’s sound world is cinematic in nature and her creations are heavily driven by mental states that face fear, torment, hope and despair. Her last album "Pylon II" is the soundtrack to a modern dance and, like her debut album, was released on the renowned Sige label by Aaron Turner (Isis / Mamiffer / Sumac) and Faith Coloccia (Mamiffer). The work was voted one of the top 20 albums of 2018 by the Wire Magazine.

Roadburn presents OFFROAD – a complimentary programme that will take place in Tilburg during the festival. OFFROAD will bring the city – and its inhabitants – closer to Roadburn, and vice versa. A number of venues throughout the city will participate in OFFROAD, offering discounts, performances, activities, special menus and more to visitors. Tilburg residents and visitors from all over will get a taste of what Roadburn is about, whilst Roadburn attendees can explore the city and add a little extra to their usual Roadburn experience if they wish. Roadburn has facilitated OFFROAD in conjunction with the city of Tilburg.
