Ripple
Op, in, langs en rond een metalen spiraal van maar liefst 5 meter breed en 3 meter hoog, verkent TeaTime Company thema’s als invloed, kracht, flow en frictie. De gigantische spiraal blijkt de ideale setting om de grenzen van hun vaardigheden en creativiteit tot het uiterste te verkennen.
Terwijl de spiraal eindeloos en ontzagwekkend op het podium rolt, komen drie acrobaten voortdurend voor nieuwe uitdagingen te staan. Telkens opnieuw worden ze gedwongen om te reageren, te anticiperen op de constante beweging van het metaal, dat op sommige momenten lijkt te gehoorzamen en op andere momenten juist zelf afdwingt.
Uniek aan ‘Ripple’ is de dynamiek tussen de artiesten en de spiraal. Een onverwachte beweging van één van hen kan de situatie op elk moment volledig veranderen. De spanning en de verrassing blijven daardoor voortdurend hoog en houden je van begin tot eind op het puntje van je stoel.
Over Teatime Company
TeaTime Company is het jonge circus- en danscollectief van Hannah Rogerson (Ierland), Bavo De Smedt (België) en Pieter Visser (Nederland). Alle drie studeerden in 2017 in Tilburg af; Hannah aan de Fontys Dansacademie, Bavo en Pieter aan de circusacademie ACaPA. Hun vriendschap, nieuwsgierigheid naar hun disciplines (hedendaagse dans, jongleren en acrobatiek aan de Chinese paal) en hun wens om onderzoek te doen op het kruispunt van dans en circus waren aanleiding om na hun afstuderen TeaTime Company te starten.
Het is indrukwekkend, deze dans- en acrobatiek voorstelling van TeaTime Company, en het wordt nooit een opeenstapeling van trucjes. De natuurlijke manier van bewegen, waarbij de drie performers perfect op elkaar ingespeeld zijn, wordt ondersteund door techno-achtige en bij vlagen melodische soundscape van Bastian Benjamin, die bijdraagt aan het gevoel van een spannend en speels experiment.

The giant metal spiral, 2.5 meters high and 5 meters long, dominates the stage and the players as a physical sculpture.
This is not simply an object or a prop. It is a set that can move completely: it is our acrobatic and manipulable playground. Circus, dance and architecture come together in Ripple.
With the help of the spiral, the three performers of TeaTime Company explore themes of balance, influence, power, flow and friction. The spiral allows them to push their limits. Where a jump can suspend time and a fall can last forever.
The Ripple effect describes the influence, persistence and consequences of our choices. Just as natural forces cause vibrations and ripples in water, our choices cause ripples in our relationships, thoughts and experiences.
As the great spiral rolls across the stage in an endless circle, the performers face constant challenges. They are forced to anticipate and react to the movement of the metal wheel, which at times seems to obey and at other times seems to have a will of its own. At any moment the entire situation can change because of an unexpected move from either spiral and performer.
