Memory Loss Concert
Muzikanten Gregory Frateur, Nicolas Rombouts en Sjoerd Bruil (onder andere bekend van de Dez Mona, Spook en Roosbeef) improviseren op muziek uit de Memory Loss Collection, een indrukwekkende trilogie van choreograaf Ann Van den Broek over verlies en dementie. Het resultaat is een opzichzelfstaand concert dat zich ter plekke ontvouwt tot een rauwe, troostende en tegelijkertijd confronterende compositie.

In het Memory Loss Concert rijgen Gregory Frateur, Nicolas Rombouts en Sjoerd Bruil drie muziekstukken aan elkaar uit de voorstellingen Blueprint on Memory , Zooming in on Loss en Memory on Loss. Uit het samenspel tussen gitarist Sjoerd Bruil, Nicolas Rombouts (synth en base) en zanger Gregory Frateur, met zijn uitzonderlijke bereik en eigen stemgeluid, ontstaat een monumentale alternatieve compositie met garantie op kippenvel.
De muzikanten
De muzikanten maken al jaren samen muziek. Ze speelden alle drie in de Belgische band Dez Mona en treden in verschillende samenstellingen en projecten op. Ze zijn tevens regelmatig betrokken bij het werk van choreograaf Ann Van den Broek. Zo ook bij de Memory Collection waaruit dit concert is ontstaan.
Nicolas Rombouts
In zijn tienerjaren maakt Nicolas Rombouts (1977) zich als autodidact de contrabas eigen. Hij volgt later de jazzopleiding aan het Lemmensinstituut om zijn muzikale studie te vervolgen aan het Conservatorium in Antwerpen. In 2003 richt hij samen met Gregory Frateur de band Dez Mona op. Ze verwerven internationale bekendheid met een uniek genre-overschrijdend geluid. In 2016 verlaat Rombouts de groep Dez Mona. Hij richt zich als componist en contrabassist op uiteenlopende multidisciplinaire projecten. Hij werkt onder anderen samen met de Vlaamse zanger Guido Belcanto, de schrijver Tom Lanoye en de Zuid-Amerikaanse singer-songwriter en gitarist Jim White. Rombouts componeert muziek voor meerdere theater- en dansvoorstellingen.
Gregory Frateur
Gregory Frateur (1978) is vooral bekend als frontman van het Antwerpse muziekcollectief Dez Mona. Met zijn unieke zangstem weet hij velen te beroeren. De flamboyante zanger werkt regelmatig samen met andere muzikanten en collectieven zoals B.O.X. en Tijs Delbeke (sinds 2018 bandlid van Balthazar). Gregory Frateur is naast muzikant als performer en zanger te zien in theater- en dansvoorstellingen, zoals Van den Vos van theatergezelschap FC Bergman en meerdere choreografieën en projecten van Ann Van den Broek.
Sjoerd Bruil
De in Antwerpen woonachtige Nederlandse gitarist en muziekschrijver Sjoerd Bruil (1981) richt in 2006 zijn eigen band op, genaamd Black Cassette. Met deze band brengt hij twee albums uit. Daarnaast is hij bandlid (geweest) van Dez Mona, Sukilove, Millionair, Broken Glass Heroes en Roosbeef. De veelvraat is ook te horen en te zien in enkele producties en choreografieën van Ann Van den Broek
Het concert dat in samenwerking met Ann Van den Broek is vormgegeven, vindt plaats in een podiumsetting door scenograaf Niek Kortekaas ontworpen voor de Memory Loss Collection.
The Memory Loss Collection
De Memory Loss Collection waaruit dit concert is ontsproten, is een verzameling voorstellingen en producties (2018-2021) van Ann Van den Broek over het thema dementie. Het slotstuk van deze collectie, Memory Loss, is in 2021 genomineerd voor een Zwaan (de belangrijkste dansprijs in Nederland) in de categorie ‘meest indrukwekkende dansproductie’. De Film Memory Loss Inside ontving de award voor de ‘Best Performance Relay & Camera Rework film’ tijdens Cinedans in 2022.

Alternative Improvisation Concert: GOOSEBUMPS GUARANTEED
Musicians Gregory Frateur, Nicolas Rombouts and Sjoerd Bruil (known from Dez Mona, Spook and Roosbeef, among others) improvise on music from the Memory Loss Collection, an impressive trilogy by choreographer Ann Van den Broek about loss and dementia. The result is a stand-alone concert that unfolds on the spot into a raw, comforting and at the same time confrontational composition.
In the Memory Loss Concert, Gregory Frateur, Nicolas Rombouts and Sjoerd Bruil string together three pieces of music from the performances Blueprint on Memory, Zooming in on Loss and Memory on Loss. The interplay between guitarist Sjoerd Bruil, Nicolas Rombouts (synth and base) and singer Gregory Frateur, with his exceptional range and own voice, creates a monumental alternative composition that guarantees goosebumps.
The musicians
The musicians have been making music together for years. All three played in the Belgian band Dez Mona and perform in various compositions and projects. They are also regularly involved in the work of choreographer Ann Van den Broek. This also applies to the Memory Collection from which this concert originated.
Nicolas Rombouts
In his teenage years, Nicolas Rombouts (1977) mastered the double bass as an autodidact. He later completed jazz training at the Lemmens Institute and continued his musical studies at the Conservatory in Antwerp. In 2003 he founded the band Dez Mona together with Gregory Frateur. They gain international fame with a unique genre-crossing sound. In 2016, Rombouts left the group Dez Mona. As a composer and double bassist, he focuses on various multidisciplinary projects. He collaborates with, among others, the Flemish singer Guido Belcanto, the writer Tom Lanoye and the South American singer-songwriter and guitarist Jim White. Rombouts composes music for several theater and dance performances.
Gregory Frateur
Gregory Frateur (1978) is best known as the frontman of the Antwerp music collective Dez Mona. He knows how to touch many with his unique singing voice. The flamboyant singer regularly collaborates with other musicians and collectives such as B.O.X. and Tijs Delbeke (band member of Balthazar since 2018). In addition to being a musician, Gregory Frateur can be seen as a performer and singer in theater and dance performances, such as Van den Vos from theater company FC Bergman and several choreographies and projects by Ann Van den Broek.
Sjoerd Bruil
Dutch guitarist and music writer Sjoerd Bruil (1981), who lives in Antwerp, founded his own band in 2006, called Black Cassette. He releases two albums with this band. He is also a band member of Dez Mona, Sukilove, Millionair, Broken Glass Heroes and Roosbeef. The wolverine can also be heard and seen in several productions and choreographies by Ann Van den Broek
The concert, designed in collaboration with Ann Van den Broek, takes place in a stage setting designed by scenographer Niek Kortekaas for the Memory Loss Collection.
The Memory Loss Collection
The Memory Loss Collection from which this concert originated is a collection of performances and productions (2018-2021) by Ann Van den Broek on the theme of dementia. The final piece of this collection, Memory Loss, has been nominated for a Zwaan (the most important dance prize in the Netherlands) in 2021 in the category 'most impressive dance production'. The Film Memory Loss Inside received the award for the 'Best Performance Relay & Camera Rework film' during Cinedans in 2022.
